About Me

Hey there! I'm a software engineer with over five years of professional experience working with Java-based systems, the Spring framework, GraphQL APIs, REST APIs, Elasticsearch, and front-end development.

I've also worked with Docker on a microservices implementation. In 2016, I became fascinated by cloud platforms and expanded my knowledge base to include offerings from Amazon Web Services.

My professional experience includes working on large and small scale projects for fortune 500 companies, late stage start-ups, and small private organizations. I thrive in a team atmosphere and enjoy working closely with others.

Editor of DevOps Publication

In 2018, I served as the Technical Editor for a DevOps publication "Generic Pipelines Using Docker". The book explores principles of a de-coupled DevOps pipeline. It also walks the reader through real-life examples and tutorials. The author, Brandon Atkinson, was a colleague of mine, knew of my experience working with Docker, and requested that I join the project .

Glassdoor Hackathon Winners

Glassdoor hosts a semi-annual 'hackathon'. Employees are encouraged to form teams, build something interesting, and present their project to the company as a whole. In 2018, my team took home the esteemed 'Ship It' prize. Afterwards, leadership decided to form a new product team to build out a production version of the hackathon project.

Microservices Article

In 2016, I became fascinated by the architectural concept of microservices. After some reading, research, and technical conferences, I decided to publish an article explaining what microservices are and how and when to use them. Freelance Development

Since 2014, I've been involved with various freelance web development projects. The most involved project is an application I built for the "Texas Private School Accreditation Commission" (TEPSAC). The TEPSAC site serves as the official listing of all private schools in Texas. It provides a searchable and sortable list of schools and a detailed view that displays various school statistics and contact information. The app consists of an admin console that allows the TEPSAC staff to create, read, update, and delete entries. This application is a completely custom solution that involved front-end, back-end, database, security, and deployment-related challenges. Elevate Internship Program

For three years, I dedicated much of my free time to CapTech's award winning internship program. As an alumni of the program myself, this internship meant a lot to me and was something I really put time and effort into.

As a technical lead for the program, my role included defining the system architecture, owning the CI/CD pipeline, setting up test environments, and provisioning deployment servers. During the summers, I served as a mentor and subject-matter expert for the interns. In the fall, I was heavily involved in the project planning and recruiting process. I organized recruiting events, conducted interviews, and helped formulate the internship project and roadmap.
